It seems like every day, new restaurants open up in Georgia. Don’t get us wrong – that’s a great thing! We love experiencing new eateries, and it’s great to be the first in your friend group to get to brag about how good a new spot is. But there’s something so comforting about eating at an iconic restaurant that’s been around for ages. After all, there’s typically a reason that these places have stood the test of time! We have plenty of long-standing historic restaurants in Georgia, and one of our favorites is Strickland’s Restaurant that’s right between Athens and Bogart. It opened up way back in 1960
Strickland's is right on the western outskirts of Athens, not far away from the boundaries of the little town of Bogart. It's an easy to miss spot that is pretty unassuming.
Athens is a city where many of the most popular eateries are focused around the University of Georgia's campus downtown. When it first opened in 1960, Strickland's was actually located in the heart of downtown, but the restaurant relocated to the west side in 1995. The fact that Strickland's has thrived for so long even far away from the main part of town speaks volumes to its quality!
Though it's not located on campus, you'll find plenty of UGA love here, with Bulldogs memorabilia lining the walls.
Strickland's is only open for breakfast and lunch, and the breakfast is immensely popular. This place has a great small town feel to it that makes it feel incredibly nostalgic.
