It's one of the few long-standing, family-owned and operated hotels left in the country. Antonio Monteleone arrived in New Orleans from Sicily around the year 1880. He was a cobbler by trade who set up a humble shop on Royal Street and got to work. Business was good and in 1886, he had the opportunity to purchase a small hotel also on Royal Street. Over the years, there have been many additions and expansions, but one thing remains the same: the family that runs it.
Criollo is Spanish for 'Creole,' and that's the type of cuisine you'll find on the menu, especially on the brunch menu. Treat yourself to New Orleans classics like shrimp and grits, gumbo, or even Eggs Sardou (which was invented at the nearby fine dining establishment, Antoine’s).

There are other tables and chairs around the lounge, but if you want the experience of riding the carousel, you'll want to arrive outside of peak times. You don't have to be a hotel guest to enter, and it's open daily from 11 a.m. until midnight.
