This Abandoned Schoolhouse In Wisconsin Is A Hauntingly Beautiful Snapshot Of The Past
Distressed wood, broken windows, and a circular swing snag the attention of passers-by on Highway 13 in northern Wisconsin. For decades, the two-room schoolhouse in the town of Cloverland, which was formed by connecting the King and Harvey schools, was a focal point of the community.

The two schools were connected in 1916. With horses and sleigh, the nearby Harvey School was moved to the same location as the King School, with the buildings being joined at that time.

Even when the school shut its doors in 1948, they didn’t stay closed for long. The building was transformed into the Cloverland Community Club, a social hub for local residents. But as residents aged and moved out of the area, doings at the club dwindled.

Today, the school buildings with the distinctive swing still attract attention. Sometimes, that’s not a good thing. In the past year, vandals have targeted the site, leaving broken windows in their wake. In Cloverland, the King School has deteriorated.

Despite the need for a new roof, foundation, and in many places, floors – along with recent vandalism that has left it open to the wind – it’s chalkboards still hold math problems and signatures from area residents.
