Under Brown Mountain Lights the Beast of Blandenboro wanders this magical land where lighthouses shine on kingdoms only accessible by ferries. A Lost Colony of legends and pirates revealed in historical sites and majestic mountains with views that make us weep. The home of handmade sculptures and scrumptious cuisine. North Carolina leaves this long-time writer and artist breathless with endless surprises, including the unlikely warmth a winter walk on the beach can bring.
Lenoir, North Carolina, is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains with the Brushy Mountains to the northeast and Hibriten Mountain just east of the city limits, our first stop in this one-of-a-kind, cave-themed day trip. For some great exercise, take a climb through history on the beautiful Hibriten Mountain Trail where a dark, mysterious cave is available to explore. And afterward, soothe your tired muscles at Wolf Moon Salt Cave and Stress Reduction Center. Just like its name, this beautiful space offers de-stressing opportunities in the most unique ways including a Himalayan salt cave, where you will surely leave more relaxed.
The otherworldly 5.4-mile Hibriten Mountain Top out-and-back trail takes about two-and-a-half hours to complete and is rated as moderately challenging.
And sadly, off to the side of the ramp facing north lies this memorial paying respects to a young hand glider pilot who lost his life while test-flying a hand glider.
And sweep out that stress in the unusual Himalayan Salt Cave and Private Salt Room, where you are surrounded by salt walls, floors, and salt stalactites suspended from the ceiling.
