With electronic devices being the go-to for everything, libraries are becoming passé. People are more likely to have smart phones and kindles than a library card. But there is a certain nostalgic simplicity when it comes to libraries and nothing beats the smell of an old book. One of the most beautiful libraries in the world can be found right here in Maryland. After seeing the following images, you may be tempted to take a bookish road trip asap.
Located in Baltimore, the George Peabody Library is seemingly normal from the outside, although still beautifully ornate.
It was - and still is - open to the public, per the wishes of George Peabody. He dreamed of a space where the residents of Baltimore could come to learn, and enjoy the inspiring atmosphere.
Although this glorious place no longer functions as a library, it still holds the remnants of its original use. This includes an impressive Dewey Decimal System...
These days, people come to take in the views of the stunning architecture. This is a photo of the ceiling, which is just as intricately designed as the rest of the building.
The George Peabody Library has also caught the eye of Hollywood filmmakers. Several movies have been filmed here, including Washington Square and Sleepless in Seattle.
And look at this couple, happily surrounded by grandeur. This dreamy place is the perfect wedding venue for lovers of books, architecture, and fairy tales.
