The Mississippi Library Commission is a library in Jackson that’s as beautiful as it is functional. Touted as an architectural marvel, billed as one of the best libraries in the U.S., and brimming with books, it’s truly like something from a book lover’s dream.
Located in the capital city, the Mississippi Library Commission serves as a local library in Jackson, but that’s not its only purpose.
The 60,000-square-foot building includes a library for the reading impaired, a reference library, patent and trademark records, and the Mississippi author first editions collection.
It’s not just literary fans who love the Mississippi Library Commission, though. Architectural enthusiasts are also quite fond of the facility – and that’s because it’s a true masterpiece!
Two architectural firms were brought in to assist in the project, as it became a joint venture back in 2005. The first architectural firm being Burris/Wagnon Architects, P.A, and the second being Duvall Decker. As these two firms worked in tandem, the building became a marvel, both inside and out.
The firms carefully planned each and every aspect of the building - right down to the shelving, furnishings, and artwork.
And it looks like the firms' hard work paid off. Today, the Mississippi Library Commission is revered as one of the "50 most beautiful libraries in the country."
