Fall has finally arrived and we couldn’t be more excited…especially after this brutally hot summer we just endured in Oklahoma. All over the state, the leaves are beginning to change colors and we have some magical places for you to watch the leaves change colors. Keep scrolling below to view 7 of our favorite destinations.
1. Ouachita National Forest - Southeast Oklahoma
The Ouachita National Forest spans over 1.8 million acres in southeastern Oklahoma and into central Arkansas. It’s one of the most beautiful places in Oklahoma and is a must-see destination. You’ll encounter stunning mountain views, picturesque scenery, and the perfect setting for outdoor activities. It's beautiful year-round but it's otherworldly during the Fall season as the leaves begin to change colors.
2. Talimena National Drive - Talihina
The Ouachita National Forest is home to Winding Stair Mountain National Recreation Area where you'll find the infamous Talimena National Scenic Byway. It's a 54-mile scenic drive that traverses the mountains and offers picturesque views. It's probably the best place in the whole state to view fall foliage, so be sure and take the drive in October-November.
3. Robbers Cave State Park - Latimer County
Robbers Cave State Park is located in the scenic San Bois Mountains and is an 8,246-acre park that is popular for hiking, rappelling, camping, and lots of outdoor recreation. The park is filled with trees and foliage that are quite majestic when the leaves turn to beautiful red and orange hues in the fall. The park also hosts a fun, fall festival every year that you don't want to miss.
4. Turner Falls Park - Davis
Turner Falls Park is a popular summer destination but if you visit it during Autumn, you'll fall in love with it in a whole new way. There are fall colors and then there are fall colors at Turner Falls. The cool air and beautiful sites will make you want to stay outside all day.
5. Beavers Bend State Park - McCurtain County
Beavers Bend State Park is a gem in southeastern Oklahoma, comprised of 1,300 acres about 10 miles north of Broken Bow. The park boasts of a postcard-like setting and is an outdoor oasis waiting to be discovered. When the leaves begin to change colors this place is hard to leave. It really is quite spectacular.
6. Osage Hills State Park - Osage County
As one of the oldest state parks in Oklahoma, Osage Hills State Park is full of mature trees, picturesque scenery, rolling hills, and rocky bluffs. It's located in an area known as "Green Country" but when the green turns to red, orange, and yellow hues, the park is picture-perfect.
7. Tahlequah - Cherokee County
Tahlequah is also located in "Green Country" and is home to the Illinois River. As you drive through town, the pops of fall colors can be seen in every direction. If you can get close to the river, the vibrant colors all around it make for a magical setting.
