Want to get out and admire the autumn scenery in the Nutmeg State, but don’t want to deal with the hassle of gassing up the car and driving? Don’t sweat; there are plenty of other ways to experience the beautiful hues of fall. One of our favorite methods of travel at this time of year is taking a fall foliage train ride in Connecticut. The Railroad Museum of New England features a fantastic fall excursion via their Autumn Colors Limited ride. It’s breathtaking scenery combined with a nostalgic and fun train ride. What more could you want? Check it out:
Our region's history is closely linked with that of the railroad, and there's nowhere better to learn about that than the Railroad Museum of New England.
This museum in Thomaston features a large collection of railroad equipment, and also operates a short line railroad between Waterville and Torrington.
The Naugatuck Railroad typically goes out on 20-mile round trips through the Naugatuck River Valley. The 80-minute excursion will take you through an incredibly scenic area of the state.
The railroad also offers special excursions throughout the year. One of our favorites is the Autumn Colors Limited train that follows along the Naugatuck River for great views of the changing leaves.
You may have been on leaf-peeping road trips before, but the advantage of riding on a fall train ride in Connecticut is you don't have to worry about traffic or stopping for gas. It's such a unique way to observe the changing leaves.
This is such a beautiful time of year to be out in the Nutmeg State. Between the crisp fall breeze and the beauty of autumn's reds and golds, there's nothing like a fall day in Connecticut.
