I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
Do you love spending time outdoors with the family? Does your family have a favorite place to go hiking? Well, we found a wonderful family-friendly trail in Massachusetts that we think you may enjoy. Leading to both a lake and a castle, you’ll want to spend hours exploring on this fairy-tale adventure.
There's a gorgeous four-mile loop trail that will take you on an adventure like no other in Massachusetts. Located in Haverhill, Winnekenni Park is home to both a lake and a castle.
Winnekenni Park Conservation Area covers more than 700 acres. On the property, you can take the easy Winnekenni Trail to a pond as well as Kenoza Lake and Winnekenni Castle.
While you can enjoy the water views at Kenoza Lake, boating, swimming, and fishing are prohibited. However, you will be able to see plenty of waterfowl swimming around!
And then there's the castle. Built between 1873-1875, this castle was designed as a summer home for Dr. Jame R. Nichols. It was eventually sold to the city of Haverhill in 1895.
