There are several unique and remarkable locations found in the Old Line State. Maybe they don’t quite rival the famous 7 wonders of the world, but a few could come close. Here are 7 of Maryland’s most astounding wonders. Whether they’re natural or man-made, they’re always impressive.
1. Chesapeake Bay
Where would we be without the Chesapeake Bay? Supporting wildlife AND humans, the bay is one of our most valuable resources.
2. Muddy Creek Falls
Located at Swallow Falls State Park, this powerful waterfall is worth a visit at least once. You can view it from either below or up above (just be careful not to slip on the wet rocks).
3. Assateague Island
This barrier island is gorgeously scenic and is home to wild ponies. You can visit for the day or reserve a camping spot and stay the night for some ocean-side star gazing.
4. Crystal Grottoes Caverns
This little known natural cave in Maryland has more formations per foot than any other cave in the world. Such a unique experience that is truly unforgettable.
5. Calvert Cliffs
Formed over 10 million years ago, this site is ripe for fossil hunting. You can find the remains of prehistoric creatures, including Megalodon sharks!
6. Cunningham Falls
Maryland's highest cascading waterfall is a neat place to visit year-round. It is definitely one of the most unique waterfalls in the U.S.
7. Chesapeake Bay Bridge
This man-made marvel is known throughout the area for being not only wondrous, but also producing anxiety for many travelers. At over four miles in length, you can't deny its architectural brilliance.
