I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.

The Halloween season is a delightfully spooky time in Ohio. And there’s one fall hike in Ohio that’s a perfect experience for families of all ages. The Trail of Scarecrows is a fun, FREE, fall art installation of scarecrows in Fairfield County. As the only county-wide scarecrow contest of its kind, the Trail of Scarecrows in Ohio has quickly become a yearly tradition amongst locals and visitors alike. Each year, over 300 static scarecrows decorate Fairfield County homes and businesses for travelers across the Buckeye State to enjoy and vote on their favorites.
Fall is a delightfully spooky season that encourages dress-up and make-believe. But for some, especially families with young kids, the spooky season can be a bit overwhelming.
Each year, over 300 scarecrows take to the streets of Fairfield County, posing in front of homes and businesses in a festive and fleeting fall exhibition. The scarecrows are designed by local individuals, businesses, and organizations, and are a delightful display of town spirit.
Everyone in Fairfield Country gets involved, from the smallest mom-and-pop shops to the long-standing community cornerstones. Designs range from pop culture throwbacks to classic, smiling scarecrows. The one running theme, however, is that these scarecrows are anything but scary, making this a fantastic "fright-free" Halloween activity.
This "trail" can be as long or short as you'd like. Those up for the challenge can check out the digital map and click on the community name they'd like to explore. This will show you a list of the scarecrows in that community, and if you click on the “map it” icon, you can see them on a map for your convenience.
Halloween is a time to embrace the wild and weird, and leave your inhibitions at the door. And the Trail of Scarecrows in Fairfield County, Ohio, is a way for everyone to experience the frightfully delightful fun of the season -- minus the frights.
Have you experienced the Trail of Scarecrows in Ohio before? It’s a fun fall event that’s not at all scary, which makes it a perfect adventure for the entire family.
