Blink and you just might miss Berdoll Pecan Candy & Gift Co., an unassuming roadside stop nestled on the outskirts of Austin...
...that is, if it weren't for the massive squirrel statue out front that promises to catch your eye. The proud mascot of Berdoll's, "Ms. Pearl" is the largest squirrel statue in the world, standing at an impressive height of 14 feet.
After taking your obligatory photo with Ms. Pearl, head into the store, where you'll be greeted by a charmingly rustic atmosphere and the delicious aroma of fresh-baked treats.
You'll see all sorts of decadent confections, from homemade fudge to pecan pralines to chocolate-covered pecans and more. The store has its own 15,000-tree pecan orchard on the fertile banks of the Colorado River, and the freshness and quality add a little something special to all of the goods.
Nothing says fall quite like pecan pie, and Berdoll's makes one of the best you'll ever try. While their world-famous recipe is top-secret, the shop does divulge that each pie features a whopping two cups of pecans, so you get that rich, nutty flavor in every bite.
