Lisa loves animals and has dogs, rats, cats, guinea pigs, and snakes. She is passionate about animal rescue and live music - traveling across the country to see a favorite band is a pretty regular occurrence! Being out hiking in the woods enjoying the scenery with her beloved dogs is another favorite hobby, and also checking out the Pokemon Go scene in whatever city she happens to be in at any given time (coffee and dog leash in hand). You could spend a lifetime exploring all the great places in the Sunflower State and still not see all there is to enjoy here, but that doesn’t mean we don’t enjoy trying! One of our favorite ways to explore our great state is by adventuring through the many wonderful trails in Kansas. One of the best is the Gary L. Haller National Recreation Trail at Mill Creek Streamway Park near Shawnee. This 13.4-mile trek is slightly longer than your typical walk in the park, but the views are amazing, and you’re likely to catch a glimpse of some wildlife while you’re out and about.
This is a view that everyone is able to enjoy! The entirety of the path is paved and accessible for wheelchairs and strollers.
Of course, if you're not up for the entire hike, you can always just do a small portion. Since this is a point-to-point trail, there's no need to worry about reaching the "finish line."
The Gary L. Haller Trail has been designated as a National Recreation Trail. This designation indicates that the trail is exceptionally high quality and provides recreation opportunities for the surrounding community.
