As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. We all know that traveling across what is now the state of California back before its early founding was no walk in the park. There were no roads, the terrain was mostly wilderness, and where you stopped was where you slept. And a large number of those early settlers arrived here by covered wagon. If you’d like to get a little taste of what that might have been like back in the day, Virginia Creek Settlement offers a unique, rustic covered wagon accommodation.
The history of today’s Virginia Creek Settlement dates back to the early 1900s.
Its location in the midst of the High Sierra region of Northern California is historic in that the original structure once served as an important stagecoach and boarding house stop for travelers traversing the area between the towns of Bridgeport and Bodie. The property has continued to expand over the years and now encompasses a motel, tent cabins, housekeeping cabins, and family-sized units.
The most rustic accommodations on the property are the covered wagons.
The breakfast menu encompasses pancakes, French toast, breakfast burritos and sandwiches, and traditional hearty homestyle items. At lunch, the restaurant serves up delicious pizzas, sandwiches, finger foods, and burgers. Add to that salads, steaks, and pasta, just to name a few items, at dinner.
The Virginia Creek Settlement is perfectly situated for adventurers who truly enjoy outdoor recreational activities.
Hiking, fishing, backcountry skiing, horseback riding, snowmobiling, hot springs, and other activities are within close proximity at places like Yosemite National Park, Mono, Mammoth, and June Lakes, Bodie State Historic Park, and Bridgeport.
A visit to Virginia Creek Settlement, particularly for those who enjoy a rustic sense of adventure, will leave lasting memories. And who knows, you just might channel your inner pioneer while you’re here as well!
