Lake George Wild Forest, Queensbury, NY, USA
This 7.7-mile loop is a difficult trail, but the views are some of the best in the state. You'll reach the summit of Black Mountain, 2,646 feet up. It's the tallest mountain in the Lake George area. Needless to say, there's quite an elevation gain!

Minnewaska State Park Preserve, 5281 Route 44-55, Kerhonkson, NY 12446, USA
Minnewaska Park has a series of great trails. Many connect with one another, so you can take different routes for entirely new experiences. One area you won't want to skip out on is Gertrude's Nose. The views from atop this mighty structure are some of the very best in the Catskills. The trail is pretty difficult and does require some scrambling, but it's easily one of the best trails in New York.

Storm King Mountain, Cornwall, NY 12520, USA
The Storm King Mountain loop is one of our favorite moderate trails in New York. It's only about 2.4 miles and you can hike it in either direction. The views are incredible, especially from the summit, which offers panoramic views of the Hudson Valley.

Kaaterskill Falls, Hunter, NY 12436, USA
Kaaterskill Falls is rightly considered one of the most beautiful natural wonders in New York. The two-tiered, 260-foot waterfall is an incredible sight, and the hike to get there is not nearly as difficult as you'd think! There are actually several paths you can take to reach the falls, with most measuring between two and three miles. The views are incredible and this is one hike that belongs on any bucket list.

Mount Jo Trail, Mt Jo Trail, North Elba, NY 12946, USA
Another forest trail in New York that we love is the Mount Jo Loop. The loop is only about two miles in length and will give you incredible views of some of the tallest mountains in the state. It's an easy trail that's great for kids, so bring the whole family along.

Buttermilk Falls State Park, South Hill, NY 14850, USA
Buttermilk Falls is one of the most underrated waterfalls in New York. There's even a natural swimming hole at the bottom! The loop trail that leads to the falls is about 1.6 miles. It is a bit steep in areas, with lots of stairs, so make sure you're well-rested before heading out!
