I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
While there are certainly plenty of places to go for a swim around the Bay State, not all are peaceful and may be full of crowds come summertime. Whether it’s the beaches, lakes, rivers, or water parks, it may be hard to find some peace and quiet. However, we found one secret swimming hole in Massachusetts you may want to visit. And you don’t need to be a local to enjoy it.
Located in the Cape Cod town of Brewster, Nickerson State Park is 1,900 acres. Here you can hike along its numerous trails, rent one of 400 campsites, and swim in one of its many ponds.
Found within Nickerson State Park is a secret kettle pond. It's accessible via hiking through the trails or driving down a dirt road located off of Baker Road in the park.
This is Higgins Pond, a pristine 25-acre kettle pond at which you can see to the bottom up to 26 feet. The maximum depth in this swimming hole is 66 feet.
There's a lovely sandy beach where you can sit and spend some time relaxing. Not only is the water cool and clean, but the views at this pond are absolutely gorgeous as well. And, chances are, you may have it all to yourself.
