If you’ve seen the viral videos of the dolls washing up on Texas beaches, you probably have some questions. Unfortunately, there are few answers to be given. Nobody quite knows where the barnacle-encrusted dolls collecting on the Port Aransas shores came from, but one thing is for sure: they’re creepy!

Port Aransas is known for having some of the most beautiful beaches in Texas. It's located on the Padre Island National Seashore - the longest stretch of undeveloped barrier islands on earth.

These pristine beaches, however, are hiding a gnarly (pun intended) secret.

Since January 2021, researchers at the Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve have been finding washed-up dolls along the shoreline, many of them covered in barnacles.
While it isn't unusually for objects to wash up on beaches, it is rare for the exact same type of item to continue washing up in the same area.

None of them are in good shape, between missing limbs, algae stains, and sometimes even markings that appear human in design.
It's anyone's guess as to where the dolls are coming from.

Currents in the Gulf of Mexico move towards Texas from the north and south, so any of the Gulf states - or even Mexico - could be the origin.
Still, researchers can't seem to figure out why this particular area of beachfront is a hotspot for doll sightings.
