One of the most beautiful and majestic birds on Earth is protected and celebrated by a Wisconsin nonprofit organization. The International Crane Foundation works to secure a future for these unique birds and its headquarters is located in the heart of Wisconsin. If you love learning about nature and taking in the beauty of a large and beautiful bird, the International Crane Foundation in the Wisconsin Dells is a must-visit. Here’s what you need to know about this Wisconsin crane conservatory.
Your find the International Crane Foundation a few miles north of Baraboo on a tranquil 250-acre property. It’s a popular attraction for nature lovers who are vacationing or attending a conference in the nearby Wisconsin Dells.
The foundation was founded nearly five decades ago. It has a global mission: conserve cranes and the ecosystems, watersheds, and flyways upon which they depend.
The foundation offers the public a chance to learn all about these wonderful birds. It's the only place where you can see all 15 of the world’s species of cranes. You can see a pair from each species and the center’s knowledgeable staff can answer any questions you might have.
The property has a picnic area and it’s laced with tranquil walking trails. There are many places to stop and rest and take in the wildlife, and the native plants and wildflowers.
You can also learn about the foundation’s important work. It helps populate endangered cranes by raising chicks for reintroduction and it also works with locals in the cranes' natural environment to restore habitat. It has operations and projects all over the world.
This is a place to lose yourself in the beauty of the natural world. The cranes here are among the world’s oldest bird species, but their future has become threatened in recent decades.
The foundation works to ensure the cranes have a long future ahead, and we applaud the work they're doing!
The International Crane Foundation is open from May 1 to October 31, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Learn more about admission and special tours on the website for this crane conservatory in Wisconsin.
