Whether it was your idea to live in Montana or the result of your great grandparents meeting here, the decision to to stick around was obviously a great one. And since you’re here, you may as well keep making the best decisions you can from here on out.
Get started with these great ideas:
1. Learn to love the great outdoors.
This goes without saying, but the only way you’ll ever be miserable in Montana is if you never learn to enjoy being outside. Whether you become an amazing skier or you make hiking a hobby, doing things outdoors will make you appreciate your home.
2. Learn to embrace a real, true winter.
We’re not talking a 40 degree day and an inch of snow here.
3. Watch the sunrise or sunset every single day.
Or both.
4. Try out every public hot spring Montana has to offer.
You’ll find your favorite spot, but visit as many as you can.
5. Learn to drive well in the snow.
6. Visit Glacier National Park as often as you can.
It's always worth it.
7. Be nice to newcomers.
Montanans don’t like people coming in from out of state and trying to change things. That’s understandable. But if you show your new neighbors kindness and explain your views instead of acting hostile, you’ll make a much better impression—and probably a friend.
8. Figure out the back roads, the hidden hiking trails, the lakes no one has heard of and the private fishing spots. Enjoy your own private Montana.
9. But also check out every tourist attraction you can (like Little Bighorn). They’re here for you, too.
10. Fall in love with a Montanan.
This might be the best decision of them all.
11. Pan for gold. Dig for sapphires.
You never know.
12. Learn as much as you can about our state’s rich history.
The Dinosaur Trail. The Gold Rush. Read all about it.
13. Shop local.
You’ll want to reap the benefits of having so much delicious locally produced fruit, vegetables and meat. Find a farmers’ market or read the labels carefully at the grocery store.
14. Travel often to explore new places…
15. … but always, always come home.
Because there’s absolutely no place like Montana.
