It can be a location where accidents, deaths, disasters, and any variety of disturbances impact the community. These troubled vortexes may have multiple occurrences or just one or two horrific incidents within a certain area. The Bluegrass State is not exempt from this curse. Here are 12 of the most potentially troubled spots in Kentucky:
12. KY - 4

10. Bluegrass Parkway
This stretch of road runs from I-65 to US 60. You would be surprised at the amount of accidents that occur despite its shorter length. 7. Lakes in Kentucky
There have been many cases of drowning at the variety of Kentucky Lakes. The waters of Kentucky are all incredibly beautiful and serene spots, but can be dangerous when experienced with carelessness. Safety will prevent accidents in most cases. There were more than 548 fatalities in Kentucky waters in 2014, and more than 3,500 non-fatal accidents.
6. Kentucky, in general
Though beautiful, our state leads the U.S. in cancer and cancer related deaths. We do not lead the U.S. in total deaths. We do have a higher percentage of lung cancer and cancer related deaths than any other state.
5. Red River Gorge and other parks
There are spots in our national parks with amazing views… but they can be in precarious locations. Every year, there are a number of deaths in local parks caused from slipping, alcohol or carelessness during rock climbing, hiking, water sports or scenic viewing.
4. Man O’ War Boulevard
This is another Lexington road in Fayette County. The multiple traffic lights positioned along its route seem to increase the number of accidents instead of preventing them. It is listed as one of the six most dangerous roads in Kentucky via Kentucky State Troopers and state attorney reports.
3. Louisville Expressways
This is the biggest city in Kentucky and according to the Kentucky State Police, it has the highest ratio of traffic accidents within its borders in the state. What is referred to as Spaghetti Junction along the Ohio River is the scene of frequent accidents, as several expressways entwine and circle around one another at the edge of downtown.
2. Louisville, in general
Brandon Anderson
Once again, this is the biggest city. It is not just noted for its accident rate, but also the amount of crime and shootings. During 2015, at one point during the year Louisville had a 50% increase in shootings from the previous year. The overall increase in shootings and violent crimes from the preceding year ended up being around 47% according to WAVE3 and the Louisville Courier Journal, and that doesn’t include the latest heroin epidemic.
1. Ohio River
Every year they pull bodies out of the Ohio River. Occasionally a body is dumped, but most times they are the victims of a boating or fishing accident. The other rivers in Kentucky have also been the scenes of water sports, swimming and boating accidents. If there is one river in Kentucky that is accident free, please post it up.
It only makes sense that the troubled spots in Kentucky are expressways, rivers, lakes, and parks. Places that get a lot of visits or vehicles are likely to have a high percentage of accidents just due to sheer numbers. What spots would you like to add?
