Maine is arguably one of the best states in the county to enjoy a scenic hike, and it’s also one of the best states to find a good meal. You can combine both pursuits with a morning hike and breakfast out in Searsport. The hike is easy, but includes some delicious views and the breakfast after the hike will feel like a well-earned dessert. Lace up your hiking shoes: here’s what you need to know about this fun adventure in Searsport, Maine:
Searsport is a community with a long history. It’s located in Waldo County and it has a deepwater port. It was first settled in the 1760s. You'll find the town about 40 minutes south of Bangor.
Searsport is home to a small but scenic state park. Moose Point State Park is a day-use park that overlooks Penobscot Bay. It’s located off U.S. Route 1, near the Belfast town line.
The park covers just 146 acres. It was once the location of a dairy farm, with a house, barn, two silos, and sixty head of cattle. But today it’s become a scenic park area and it’s gorgeous.
The park has short hiking paths that skirt the ocean. This is not a place for an all-day hake, but it is a place where you can get a little exercise, take in a bit of rocky coastline, and see the sun rise.
One of the best things about this state park is you won’t have to travel far for breakfast. It’s only about a four-minute drive to Costal Cafe and Bakery. All kinds of fresh breakfast treats will be waiting at this cafe, which serves local and organic food.
Learn more about Moose Point State Park on the park’s website. Costal Cafe’s website has details on the restaurant’s website. If you feel like a more challenging hike, here are some challenging trails worth exploring.
