There is lodging in both Lincoln and Franconia if you want to spend the night, as well as campsites in the park. There are also many popular stops along the road: Kinsman Falls, The Basin, and Echo Beach, just to name a few.
Oddly enough, one of the most accessible sites is, in fact, Cannon Mountain. You can either take the fairly difficult hike up the mountain, or you can take the much more convenient cable cars.

It may be a cop-out, but this easy-going lift gives some phenomenal views of the rest of the park, and beyond!

On a nice day, you could be able to see the surrounding states and even parts of Canada! In the winter, travelers hit the slopes, as Cannon Mountain is also a popular skiing destination.
As with any place in New England, autumn is uncontested as the prettiest time of year. It doesn't matter if you're hiking or driving through, it is impossible not to soak in the view.
