This park on Lake Michigan contains a multitude of ruins.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the park was the site of a limestone quarry, which shut down in 1925 and has stood derelict and abandoned ever since - even after the quarry filled with water and became a lake, and the lake became part of the park.

Telltale signs of the quarry’s former operations are evident along the trail.

When it was operational more than a century ago, the quarry shipped out limestone from a pier on Lake Michigan.

The *Niagara* was a wooden steamship that caught on fire and sank below the surface of Lake Michigan in 1856.

The bodies of those who died washed ashore near what is now Harrington Beach Park.

The *Niagara’s* anchor lies at rest on the shore near this spot.
