St. Francisville, Louisiana is always on top of my list of favorite places to visit. I have never been disappointed in the many photo-ops and the sheer beauty of the area.

The plantation that once existed at Afton Villa Gardens burned down; only the ruins are left to mark their location. The beautiful gardens and grounds, however, are alive as ever. The azalea-lined paths and dramatic oak trees provide a vibrant backdrop for a leisurely stroll through the area.

If you visit during the Audubon Pilgrimage, an annual festival in St. Francisville that celebrates the artist John Audubon, it is so much easier to picture life back when the plantations of St. Francisville, were in their heyday. Local women dress in period costumes and share stories of how life was lived at that time.

Rosedown Plantation is a stunning spot to visit and it’s filled with statues and structures that speak of a different era.

That is what I try to capture in my photographs, a glimpse into the past and the beauty in our State; lush gardens, majestic oaks, marble statues…nobody creates gardens like these anymore and they are truly a treasure that should not be missed!
