There are many hiking trails within North Dakota’s famed Theodore Roosevelt National Park – at least 30! So, how do you know which ones to do and which ones to skip? If you ask us, we don’t think you should skip any of them, but there are a few that we think you should do before the rest. What about something short and sweet to start with? The Boicourt Overlook Trail in North Dakota is a gem in and of itself; it’s so scenic and the views are so stunning that it feels like our very own Grand Canyon right here in our backyards. It's pretty easy, too, and the reward at the end almost feels too good to be true. It's one of the best overlooks in North Dakota, and it's all ours!

It's quite easy, with very little elevation gain, and the whole walk is quite beautiful.

Walk to the end of the path and take it all in. The canyons of the Badlands seem to go on forever, and when the skies overhead are blue - which they usually are - the canyon and sky feel infinite.

As we mentioned earlier, it's a super-short walk - 0.8 miles - and as a result, it's the perfect place to stop for a bit and get the blood flowing into your legs again (with a killer view).
Unfortunately, this is one hike you might have to do alone - there are no furry friends allowed on the trail (not even on a leash).
