I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
Oregon is an immensely beautiful state, and so what we’re about to say might not go over too well. Are you ready? The best views of Oregon are actually from Washington. Yes… it’s true! We’re talking, of course, about the Cape Horn Lookout in the Columbia River Gorge, a resplendent natural wonder that we share with our neighbor to the north.
Lauded as The Crown Jewel of the Pacific Northwest, the Columbia River Gorge is the largest natural scenic area in the United States. The mighty Columbia River serves as the border between Oregon and Washington, and there are all sorts of treasures awaiting you on both states’ sides. While we're partial to Oregon's side of this natural wonder, there are certain vistas you simply can't experience from here...
...like this. Located on Highway 14 near Stevenson, Washington, the Cape Horn Lookout offers a glimpse of the unique beauty of southern Washington -- and Oregon!
While the windshield views are amazing, you should definitely take the time to stop and check out the overlook. And if you're feeling adventurous, lace up your boots and set out on the Cape Horn Loop Trail.
As you traverse the forests and fields along the Columbia River Gorge, the alpine and river views are nothing short of magical. And during wildflower season? Jaw dropping!
There are so many wonderful ways to experience the splendor of the Beaver State, but this viewpoint from the Evergreen State just might be our favorite!
Have you seen Oregon from this beautiful overlook before? It’s definitely worth crossing state lines to experience! Visit AllTrails for more information on the Cape Horn Loop Trail.
And for an immensely scenic viewpoint on Oregon’s side of the Columbia River Gorge, this is the way!
