Colorado is a seemingly beautiful and pleasant place to be, thanks to our good people, innovative attractions, and, of course, our famous landscape. Behind all of this perfection, however, there are plenty of haunts and morbidities, including this abandoned Colorado railroad that may just be one of the most haunted places on earth:
Welcome to the historical and downright creepy Phantom Canyon Road.
Located near Florence, the Phantom Canyon Road is situated just off the Gold Belt Tour byway between Cripple Creek and Florence and runs along an old railroad route.
While you drive along the road, you will see a new side of the Centennial State, including the old towns of Wilbur, Adelaide, and Glenbrook, and some sinister-looking tunnels.
What makes Phantom Canyon Road so creepy? It is thanks to the alleged sighting of a man walking along the tracks after he was executed in a nearby prison.
When you visit today, be sure to keep your eyes and ears peeled for the not-so-dead prisoner, as visitors since the original 1890s sighting have claimed to have also seen, heard, and felt some weird things along the road.
Whether or not you see, hear, or sense anything paranormal, you have to admit this place just looks plain eerie.
Phantom Canyon Road is located an hour southwest of Colorado Springs and can be accessed via Highways 115 (to the south) and 67 (to the north).
