Being the smallest state means many things for the people of Rhode Island. Not only do people tend to overlook where we come from, but there is also a lot that is simply unknown about the Ocean State. Somewhere along the way some misconceptions started spreading like wildfire. Here are 12 stereotypes about Rhode Island that really need to be put to rest already.
1. As the classic Saturday Night Live clip highlights, Rhode Island is neither a road...
2. ...nor an island.
3. Rhode Island is definitely not part of Long Island and we're not really sure where this stereotype came from.
4. Not every Rhode Islander has the Family Guy accent... unless of course you're from certain parts of Cranston, or Johnston.
5. There is also not a town called quahog.
6. Unfortunately not everyone in Rhode Island lives at the beach.
7. We also don't all live on a boat as some might assume from the state's nickname.
8. Despite what many think, the people of Rhode Island do not eat lobster every day.
9. Hot Wieners are actually not Rhode Island hot dogs, they are an entirely different thing! An entirely different and delicious thing.
10. Coffee milk is not the only milk option in state! It's just our favorite.
11. Del's Lemonade is not just normal lemonade. It is a cup of frozen local heaven.
12. Not every Rhode Islander is a quahogger, or fisher by trade.
Can you think of any other stereotypes about Rhode Island that simply aren’t true?
