There are tons of great places to visit all around the Hawaiian Islands. But the friendliest town in Hawaii has to go to Makawao Town, a cheerful Cowboy town and art community on the island of Maui. It’s a small town, but there’s plenty to do. Whether you come for the rodeo, the artwork, or the best bakery on the island, you’ll leave happy after visiting this charming small town in Hawaii.
If you’re looking for a friendly spot, head on to Upcountry Maui.
There’s a small little town called Makawao that’s filled with cowboys, artists, and some of the best baked goods on the island. This town is a must-see if you’re out and about exploring.
This town is also home to horses and all manner of ranch animals.

The Kahakapao Loop Trail is a favorite, climbing through forested areas with beautiful wildflowers. It’s a moderate hike that’s perfect during the heat of the day.
Watch Hawaiian cowboys, or Paniolo, barrel race, calf rope, and bareback bronco ride. It’s just like your traditional rodeo, but with a Hawaiian twist!
And don’t forget the art galleries and community in this small town.
In fact, it was voted one of the top 25 art community destinations in the entire United States. You’ll find glassblowers, wood sculptors, and painters, as well as the gorgeous Hui Noeau Visual Arts Center.
