Alabama has many unique structures, including a variety of statues. While some of the statues are historical, many others are known for their massive size. One of Alabama’s most unique statues, which is also quite massive in size, is Bamahenge. You can read all about it below.
Bamahenge is a unique statue that's located near Barber Marina in Elberta, Alabama.
To reach Bamahange, you'll simply drive U.S. 98 for either eight miles east of Foley or 21 miles west of Pensacola. You'll then turn south onto County Road 95. Following that, you'll drive for five miles and then take a right turn onto Fish Trap Road. You'll then drive half a mile before turning left onto Leiterman Road. After driving one mile, you'll notice Bamahenge on the right. You'll park your car and take a walk down a path.
Bamahenge was built for George Barber, a local billionaire. He contacted Mark Cline to build it for him. Mr. Cline knew it would be tricky to get Bamahenge the exact size as Stonehenge, so he consulted with astronomers and historians to get the size exactly correct.
The next time you're in the Elberta area, consider checking out Bamahenge. It's one of Alabama's hidden gems, and you'll love getting to see it up close. Plus, you'll get to experience Stonehenge without having to leave the country.
