I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
It’s no secret that the greater Charleston area offers some of the best restaurants in the country. From establishments like Chez Nous to Hall’s Chophouse, you will experience an excellent meal just about anywhere you go. If you’re in the market for the best fried chicken around, there’s an unassuming restaurant in South Carolina you need to visit. Let’s take a look at the incredible Boxcar Betty’s!
Located along the Savannah Highway in the West Ashley neighborhood of Charleston is one of the best fried chicken places you could eat at in the city. Boxcar Betty's award-winning fried chicken is not to be missed!
Using all-natural, cage-free, and antibiotic-free chicken, a meal at Boxcar Betty's is as good as it gets. You can order fried or grilled chicken; or, if you're a vegetarian, try a pimiento-stuffed portobello mushroom cap.
The children's menu features fan favorites like chicken tenders, which comes with a juice box and fruit cup, although you can substitute for a small drink and fries instead.
The sides are just as incredible as the chicken, especially the fried pickled green tomatoes. Or you can add hand-cut fries or sweet potato fries, fried pickles (served with ranch dressing), chicken tenders, or peach coleslaw.
Would you prefer a salad? Made with bibb lettuce, shallots, pickled green tomatoes, candied pecans, and your choice of lime vinaigrette or agave buttermilk dressing (yum!) and either fried or grilled chicken or a Portabello mushroom, this salad is irresistible!
Have you visited this unassuming restaurant in South Carolina before? If you have, tell us about your experience and what you ordered! For more information, visit Boxcar Betty’s website and follow the Facebook page.
For southern fried chicken and bbq, you can also visit Chickin Lickin in Hardeeville.
