The Nutmeg State is well-known for being small. We may not have the massive landscape that larger states possess, but in some ways, that’s a good thing. For instance, when planning a road trip in Connecticut, you’re able to see much more of the state than you could in a larger place like Texas or California. Here at Only In Connecticut, we’re fond of a good themed road trip. And what’s more tasty than a trip centered around food? We’d love to circle the globe and travel internationally, but if you don’t have the time or money to do that, you can do the next best thing right here at home. Check out this quick Connecticut road trip that will take you to several of our best hole in the wall ethnic restaurants. They may not look like much, but they’ll make you feel like you’re on a world tour without ever leaving the state!
This trip will take you through most of the southern portion of the state. You'll get to experience food from a variety of countries with a driving time of around three hours.
You can get all kinds of unique offerings here: goat's head soup, ackee and salt fish, and tasty porridge. They've even got breakfast dishes. They don't have a website, so stop in to check out their menu.

You can't do an ethnic restaurant road trip in Connecticut without Mexican! El Gallo Dorado #2 is an authentic spot that may be located in small town Connecticut, but it tastes like you just stepped across the border into Mexico.
The food is served from a buffet, so you don't have as many options as you would from somewhere with a large menu, but it's all delicious and the prices are great. They don't have a website, but stop by and enjoy!

African restaurants in Connecticut are not as popular as some of the other regional foods on this list. After all, you see Italian and Mexican eateries quite often.
But African food is just as tasty! Pabs focuses on West African food, with dishes from a variety of nations. This is a good opportunity to try food you might not normally eat.
