Sometimes the best getaway destinations are in the places you least expect it. That’s the case with the small town of Price. While this town is best-known for coal mining and the location of Utah State University Eastern, is it also a terrific place to get away and explore. This Utah town is full of family-fun attractions, outdoor recreational activities, and delicious places to eat. Price may just be one of the most surprising Utah towns for a weekend getaway.
Price is located in the eastern part of the Beehive State. It isn’t a large town and has a population of just over 8,000 residents.
Price began similar to many other towns around the state — as a pioneer town. It was founded by pioneers who belonged to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This town quickly grew once the railroad came to town and coal mining boomed in the area.
Today, when you visit this Utah town, there is plenty to see and do. Price is near many outdoor and family-friendly attractions that will impress both the young and the young at heart.
Nine Mile Canyon is actually a 40-mile canyon filled with dozens of prehistoric petroglyphs. Maps are available in the town of Price and you can stop along the canyon at multiple pull-outs and walk to some amazing images.
In town, you’ll want to plan a visit to USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum. This unique museum teaches you all about dinosaurs, the ice age, and more. During your visit, you can see prehistoric objects that were found in the price area.
This small town is also a terrific place to just explore. Bring your camera and drive around, admire the historic buildings and unique landscape, and more.
