When it comes to hiking trails in New York, your first thought may be that the shorter hikes are not worth your while, especially if you are an experienced hiker. It’s human nature to assume that the more challenging a trail, the more valuable a payoff. In fairness, we do have plenty of longer trails that lead to beautiful overlooks or stunning natural wonders. But that doesn’t mean that our short hikes are not just as worthy of exploration! For example, the short Auger Falls Loop tucked away in the Siamese Pond Wilderness is absolutely stunning. The whole hike is less than 1.5 miles, and it’s great for all skill levels.
This is such a stunning loop trail. It follows along the Sacandaga River for much of the route.
Auger Falls is a beautiful series of gently cascading falls. It lacks the dramatic drops of some of the better-known waterfalls in New York, but it is just as gorgeous.
Unlike some hikes in the Adirondacks, this one doesn't have much of an elevation gain (under 200 feet throughout the trail), so it's a lot less strenuous.
