Do you love Harry Potter? Do you love Star Wars? Do you love a live music concert? Then have we got an event for you, coming to West Virginia in spring of 2022.
In September of 1939, a group of nearly five dozen musicians gathered in Charleston to practice what would later become the first performance of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, originally known as the Charleston Civic Orchestra. From children's concerts to ballets to operas, the symphony orchestra has been performing for West Virginia audiences ever since.
Since its inception, the orchestra has expanded in every way: in numbers, in talent, in scope, in fame, and in complexity of performances.
And one of the performances the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra is putting on this year is a unique but epic battle between two of the world's favorite fantasy storylines.
That's right, in the spring of 2022 in the Maier Foundation Performance Hall (part of the Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences of West Virginia building), Harry Potter and Star Wars will meet for an epic musical duel that will defy the odds and delight the ears.
The concert is scheduled for Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. It will feature music from each of the nine Star Wars films and each of the eight Harry Potter films.
Note that no film footage will be shown, however - just music!
And as epic as the musical journey the orchestra is prepared to take you on will be, it gets even better. The orchestra is inviting the audience to attend in costume!
Wizard robes, Potter scarves, Chewbacca masks - it's all fair game. And we wouldn't be surprised if some of the orchestra members come in costume as well! It's truly shaping up to be a galactic night of magic and music.
Can't make it to Charleston for this epic musical battle? Watch for the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra to come to you! This musical group tours the state each year, playing concerts all across the Mountain State (unfortunately, it looks like this will be their only Harry Potter / Star Wars concert, though).
Another thing to love about the WVSO? Their commitment to youth and education. In addition to in-school concerts and programs, the symphony orchestra has also released a nationally acclaimed series of Young People's Concert CDs designed to be used alongside a regular curriculum in any school.
So grab some friends, grab some costumes, grab some tickets, and head to Charleston this March! To learn more, visit the West Virginia Symphony website . Have you ever heard the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra play? For another type of live music experience in the Mountain State, head here .
