The population hovers just under 10,000, making it the perfect little-big town!
The town was officially founded in 1829, but has much earlier roots.

Acadian pioneer Firmin Breaux began buying parts of the land now known today as Breaux Bridge in 1771, seeing great potential in this little slice of swampy paradise. In 1799, he built a footbridge over Bayou Teche to help with commerce in the area. Not long after, his son Agricole built the first vehicular bridge over the bayou in 1817, allowing for both sides of the bayou to develop simultaneously, a unique claim to fame for folks back then.
A town known for crawfish, it's certainly one of the best towns in Louisiana to get your fill on mudbugs.
