As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
Sometimes you just need to get away from it all.
If you’re looking for a relaxing stay, it’s often best to retreat to the woods. New York’s Finger Lakes Region has plenty of woods and beauty to offer you and your family. This little cabin in Montour Falls is the perfect home base for you to explore this area, and it’s surrounded by forest. You’ll feel right at home at Springs Retreat, and when the time comes to depart, you’ll feel refreshed and renewed, too.
This cabin looks and feels remote and private because it is. However, it's not too far off the main road, and there's much to do in the area.
The hosts live on the front portion of the property. The cabin is quite a distance behind their house; it's not visible from the cabin. They built Springs Retreat themselves to be their grown daughter's first home. She enjoyed it for several years before moving away.
It's easy to find Springs Retreat. It's located just off County Route 16, near the intersection of County Route 16 and NY-414. This sign makes the turn into the driveway easy to spot.
Once you turn off the main road, you'll pass the main house and the hosts' garden. In the summertime, they'll offer you some of the berries and vegetables they grow there.
When you pull up to the cabin, you'll find a little pond full of tiny goldfish, just steps from the front door.

When you step inside the cabin's front door from the porch, you'll feel welcome and serene right away. This cabin may be small, but it's cozy and perfect for a quiet visit with the people you love most in the world.
Be aware that the staircase is narrow and steep, and that you should hold onto the railing for safety purposes. You'll need to go upstairs to reach the bedroom.
They're also happy to answer any questions you may have and, on request, they will suggest tasty local restaurants for you as well.
This area is known for its waterfalls. Many are visible from the road; some require a hike. Several of them are fewer than five minutes away from the Springs Retreat cabin. You can fill an entire day visiting them.
If you love animals, you might consider a visit to Farm Sanctuary. This 275-acre, no-kill animal shelter is home to more than 800 rescued farm animals. They offer tours daily.
The Springs Retreat cabin awaits you and your family in the woods in all seasons. If you stay here once, you'll likely want to come back time and time again.
