When you leave Mississippi, you quickly learn the state is worthy of its nickname, the Hospitality State. Kindness is hard to come by in other parts of the world, so when you do find a friendly face or warm smile, you’re sure to feel relieved...and a bit homesick.
Leisurely drives are synonymous with Mississippi. Between the state’s slower pace of life and abundance of back roads, it’s practically the official pastime.
A staple in most Mississippians’ homes, porch swings often serve as a gathering place, where lifelong memories are made. As soon as you climb on one, the memories of home are sure to start flowing.
Lots of rural lands and minimal light pollution mean that Mississippians are treated to nightly celestial displays – and no matter where you go, you can look up at the same sky (albeit, the views might not be as good).
Most Mississippians encounter rolling pastures with grazing cattle on a daily basis, which is why a cow, sprawling field, or both are sure to stir up some Mississippi memories.
If Mississippi had an official state drink, it would undoubtedly be sweet tea. There is absolutely NO WAY you could see, smell, or taste sweet tea and not think of Mississippi. It’s literally impossible.
