I'm an east coast girl living in a west coast world. I grew up in New England before moving to SoCal for several years. I then lived in NYC or a year before moving to AZ in 2009. I worked in the entertainment industry for many years of my adult life and have a deep love for photography, writing, and traveling around the U.S. as well as to far-flung locations around the world. Travel is my life and writing about it is a dream!
A drive along Illinois’ Historic Route 66 guarantees you’ll find something unique. Whether it’s a roadside attraction like Henry’s Rabbit Ranch or a museum like the Route 66 Association Hall of Fame & Museum, there’s always somewhere fascinating and nostalgic to stop along the way. And if you’re hungry, well, there are some eateries you won’t find anywhere else in the world like DeCamp Station, a place for food, drinks, fun, sports, and a little history.
DeCamp Station can be found in the small city of Staunton, which was once a settlement for coal miners and now has a population of approximately 5,000.
Once a roadhouse, DeCamp Station eventually became a unique bar that offers delicious food, drinks, and tons of fun, all in a historic setting. Come here to watch or play a sport, have a meal and drinks, and listen to live music on certain nights.
There is quite a variety of classic American food on the menu, from wings and pizza (or "Peetza" as it's called here) to wraps and fish, and even sirloin dinners. Just about everyone who walks through the doors will find something on the menu they like.
At DeCamp Station, you can choose to sit at the bar or a table inside, or on the patio during the warmer months. One of the most unique parts about this sports bar is the fact that it has sports fields out back.
Come here during warmer weather and you may be able to catch a game of baseball, softball, or volleyball played by locals. You may even get to play a game with your friends! There are baseball and softball fields as well as volleyball courts on-site, which is part of what makes this place so much fun. On top of that, there is also a seasonal bar in the back!

Another restaurant worth a stop along Illinois’ Historic Route 66 is Dell Rhea’s Chicken Basket, a local favorite since the 1940s.
