Tour the mansion to see examples of a Louis XVI French château. The gardens are lush and green, and filled with water features, sculptures and botanical beauty.

When Alfred I Dupont married his second wife, Alicia, he was determined to spoil her. He purchased a 3,000-acre plot of land and built the mansion shortly after their marriage in 1907.

The mansion was designed by architects Carrere and Hastings. The architectural style is late 18th century French. The 47,000 square foot home has five floors and 105 rooms.

The gardens include many sculptures and fountains. The Reflecting Pool has 157 jets. The pool holds 800,000 gallons of water. The Four Seasons sculptures around the pool were created by Henri Crenier.

The Maze Garden consists of both Western Arborvitae and Japanese Barberry hedges. The statue in the center, "Achievement," is the work of Henri Crenier.

The mansion and gardens open for the 2016 season on May 1st. It’s open Tuesday - Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 5:00 p.m. It is closed on Mondays. It’s located at 850 Alapocas Dr, Wilmington.
