Is there anything cozier than a historic tavern? With well-worn floorboards, dim lighting, and delicious home-cooking, these places offer a truly original dining experience. Here in Virginia, we’re lucky to have a handful of historic taverns, and one of our favorites is Hunter’s Head Tavern in Upperville. It’s a bit off the beaten path; however, with such delectable dishes and a unique atmosphere, it’s well worth the journey. Here’s more on what you can look forward to when you dine at the historic Hunter’s Head Tavern in Virginia.
How far would you be willing to travel for a home-cooked meal inside an authentic tavern? We're here to say that Hunter's Head is worth the trip from just about anywhere in Virginia!
Step inside and you'll immediately be transported back in time. And yet just about everything inside has been updated to ensure your dining experience is comfortable.
And if you thought the tavern setting was impressive, just wait until you check out the menu! This fish and chips dish consists of sustainably-harvested cod, house-made tartar sauce, crushed peas, and hand-cut fries.
The tavern is part of the local Ayrshire Farm, which means all of the ingredients are fresh, local, and seasonal. Photographed below is the heritage breed pork pot roast.
One thing's for sure: you'll need to save room for dessert. The dedicated dessert menu features knock-out options such as Belgian waffle sundaes, sticky toffee pudding, chocolate-chocolate cake, and much more.
