Visitors to the Catoctin Mountain Extended Loop Trail have offered a similar assessment over the years: this trek features some of the most scenic views of Maryland’s natural wonders! The popular trail, located on the outskirts of the Maryland town of Thurmont, extends nearly 10 miles from start to finish and reaches elevations as high as 1,738 feet. This unique landscape gives hikers of all skill levels to opportunity to enjoy immense beauty.

The Catoctin Mountain Extended Loop Trail is officially open from March through November; this is when weather conditions are most optimal to hike on the terrain. Hikers can bring their dogs, though they must be kept on a leash at all times.
