There’s really a museum for everything in Nevada! Dive into the sensual side of Sin City with a visit to the unique museum that’s entirely devoted to the art of burlesque dancing. We all know that Las Vegas has thrived on the risque and this museum will take you on a titillating journey to the heart of burlesque entertainment. Filled with artifacts and oddities spanning decades, you’ll definitely remember your time in this bizarre little museum in Vegas!
Located in Las Vegas' Arts District, the Burlesque Hall of Fame may be one of the most unique museums in the state. As the world's only museum dedicated to the art and history of burlesque, a visit to this museum is guaranteed to thrill.
If you think you've seen all that Vegas has to offer, think again. After moving to Las Vegas from Helendale in 2006, the museum quickly became one of the best, little-known tourist attractions in Vegas. You may want to leave the kids at home for this adult-centric museum, but the Burlesque Hall of Fame does in fact welcome all ages.
Exploring the Burlesque Hall of Fame is a rare treat. The museum boasts a collection of several thousand costumes, stage props, photographs, and personal effects. All of these incredible items work to document the career and lives of burlesque dancers, comics, and producers that span over a century.
Every admission to the museum comes with a 30 minute tour of burlesque's timeline through American history. During the tour, you'll learn all about how American burlesque emerged in the 1860s and how it endured as other forms of entertainment faded. Burlesque's rise-and-fall history is prominently displayed through the museum's stunning exhibits.
Among some of the iconic items you'll witness at the Hall of Fame are ivory fans used by Sally Rand, gloves and a velvet shoulder cape worn by Gypsy Rose Lee, and a heart-shaped couch owned by Jayne Mansfield. There's a lot of history within these walls, despite it not being the type of history you'll find in a textbook!
The museum also does its part to show that burlesque is far from dead. Every year, the Burlesque Hall of Fame inducts a "Living Legend of the Year" to a performer who has made a significant contribution to burlesque's history. They also present an annual "Sassy Lassy" award to a person who has contributed to the preservation of burlesque.
Take a walk on the wild side and experience the "art of the tease" for yourself. We bet you'll learn something new at the Burlesque Hall of Fame! Visit the museum's website for more information including current hours and admission rates.
