While Halloween is known for being the season of haunts and spooks, there is truly never a wrong time for a creepy ghost story, especially when the said story is allegedly true. Fortunately (or not, depending on how you look at it), Colorado has plenty of these bone-chilling legends, including this one that is sure to leave you absolutely baffled:
Located in Denver is the popular Cheesman Park, which may seem innocent enough at the surface but is home to one of the greatest haunts in the Mile High City.
Established in the 1890s, Cheesman Park was one of the first parks in the newly formed capital city, but before it was the sprawling 81 acres that we all know and love today, it was the site of the Prospect Hill Cemetery, which not only covered Cheesman but also the Denver Botanic Gardens and Congress Park.
After the city voted to demolish the cemetery in favor of a new park, they hired E.P. McGovern to exhume the bodies, place them into new coffins, and then move the coffins to a new location, which quickly fell through when McGovern went looking for ways to save time and money.
Instead of performing the task as promised, McGovern bought child-sized coffins, chopped up the bodies to make them fit, and threw dismembered body parts around the grounds during the process.
Not all of the deceased would end up being moved when the new park was constructed, and since then, guests have claimed to have experienced many paranormal instances, including strange sights and sounds from the estimated 2,000 who remain underground.
In addition to just the sights and sounds, those who live near the park claim to have confused and lonely spirits knocking on their doors, as well as feel a sense of melancholy whenever visiting the grounds.
We want to hear from you: Have you had any weird experiences at Cheesman Park? Is it really haunted? Let us know in the comments!
