Louisiana is a river state—no doubt about it. The large majority of our towns and cities are found on bodies of water. We found 11 of those towns where waterways play a big role in the character of the city. From small towns to larger cities, there’s something for everyone in these beautiful places.
Pearl River was originally known as Halloo, reportedly because loggers yelled that term to one another as they labored along the river. Today, the town is a sleepy one surrounded by beautiful nature.
The largest town in Catahoula Parish, Jonesville is found at the place where the Ouachita, Tensas, and Little Rivers intersect. These three rivers become the Black River at Jonesville.

The parish seat of Vermilion Parish, Abbeville is a beautiful small city with lots of historic architecture. It's also home to a number of local festivals, including the Daylily Festival, the Garden Show and the Giant Omelette Celebration.

Located on the west bank of the Mississippi River down River Road in Ascension parish, Donaldsonville is an amazing historic town with beautiful architecture.
The largest city and parish seat of Morehouse Parish, Bastrop was formally incorporated in 1857. The town served as a relief camp for refugees during the Great Mississippi Flood of 1927. It sits near the banks of Bayou Bartholomew.
