If there’s one thing true about Louisianians, it’s that we love to support local businesses, especially when it comes to food – and for good reason! We’ve all been to a restaurant outside of Louisiana and catch a taste of home on the menu only to discover that it’s… not great. Luckily, the kitchens in our homegrown restaurants are filled with locals who have spent years mastering the art of Cajun and Creole cuisine, and that’s exactly what you’ll find at Ponchatoulas.
Nestled in the heart of downtown Ruston, Ponchatoulas has been a neighborhood favorite ever since it opened its doors in 1996.
Originally a fire station in the early 1900s, the space wasn’t converted into a restaurant until the late 1980s. Music fans might be surprised to learn that one of music’s biggest legends recorded here when it was the KRUS radio station.
Who was the musician you might ask? Why, it was none other than Elvis Presley!

One thing is certain: when you dine at Ponchatoulas, you better come hungry.
Start your meal off with one of the specialty starters, like boudin balls, boudin egg rolls, mini meat pies, and more. Go ahead, treat yourself!
For a full menu and hours of operation, visit the restaurant’s website. If you know of a local eatery that could use some love, be sure to nominate it for a chance to be featured!
