There are plenty of cruise ships from major companies like Norwegian Cruise Lines and Royal Caribbean that leave from Boston and head to places like Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and even Canada. But there’s another cruise line, one you may not have even heard of, that offers an itinerary a bit closer to home. The Cape Codder Cruise by American Cruise Lines starts and ends in Boston, exploring some of the most beautiful parts of the Massachusetts coast in between. If you want to travel, but don’t want to go too far, this may be the trip for you.
The Cape Codder Cruise sets sails aboard the American Constitution, a ship designed specifically to navigate the waterways along the East Coast.
American Cruise Lines has a fleet of smaller cruise ships. The American Constitution can accommodate up to 175 guests throughout its 90 staterooms. Choose a large or smaller stateroom with a private balcony where you can sit and enjoy the sea breeze as the ship cruises along the water.

The eight-day Cape Codder Cruise itinerary begins in Boston, where you can explore the historic city on your own. Walk along the Freedom Trail, visit a museum or two, and have a bite to eat in the North End if you'd like. After Boston, the ship will set its sights north to Gloucester before heading to Plymouth, Martha's Vineyard, and a few stops along the coast of Cape Cod -- all before returning home to Massachusetts' beloved capital city.
Day 2 will be spent in Gloucester, a picturesque seaside fishing village on Cape Ann. Spend some time walking through the village, visit Hammond Castle, and make sure you stop at a restaurant for some fresh seafood. Day 3 will take you to Plymouth where you can spend some time exploring Plimouth Plantation and the Mayflower II, a replica of the ship the Pilgrims took from Europe to the New World back in 1620.
On Day 4, the ship will spend time docked in Martha's Vineyard where you can take a narrated tour of the island and visit the famous candy-colored gingerbread cottages. After Martha's Vineyard, you'll stop at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute in Falmouth where you'll get an exclusive tour of the facility, meet scientists, and get an up-close and personal look at some of the robots used to explore the ocean.
New Bedford is the next stop on this cruise. Visit the world-renowned New Bedford Whaling Museum to learn about the history of whaling in southeastern Massachusetts.
Provincetown, a vibrant community located at the end of Cape Cod, is the Day 7 stop on the Cape Codder Cruise itinerary. Shop and explore the restaurant scene along Commercial Street, take a dune tour in a private SUV, or climb to the top of the Pilgrim Monument for incredible views! Take it all in because this is the last stop before heading back to Boston.
