Nestled in southwest Allen County, Indiana, is a park known as Fox Island. It’s a 605-acre sight to be seen, and a mecca of sorts for all kinds of vibrant wildlife and flora. In fact, it’s the perfect place for critters to thrive; 270 of the park’s acres are specially-dedicated State Nature Preserve, and you’re definitely going to want to check each and every acre out. This wildlife refuge in Indiana is a beautiful and interesting place.
It's not simply one kind of biome; you'll find various ones like marshes, sand dunes, woodlands, forests, prairies... it seems like there's a little bit of everything to be seen here.
Whether you're an avid bird-watcher or you simply enjoy admiring brilliantly colorful wildlife from a safe distance, the Fox Island Nature Preserve is most certainly the perfect place for you.
This park contains the single-largest contiguous forest in the entire county. There's also a glacial sand dune 'round these parts, so keep your eyes peeled for that!

The variety of wildlife found at the preserve is fascinating and makes for a super-fun activity to bring the little ones along for.
Literally hundreds of species of plants and animals call this gorgeous wildlife refuge in Indiana home, so it's almost certain you'll cross paths with at least one or two.
You can learn a lot in one afternoon! The staff prides themselves on delivering important knowledge in a way that's clear and easily understood by folks even without scientific backgrounds.
And make sure to bring a swimsuit and some water shoes, because there's even a swimming lake with a beach, too! Keep in mind that there is no lifeguard on duty, so please plan accordingly. Oh, and dog lovers: there's a dog beach. You just KNOW you gotta see that.
The park is open year-round, even during winter. You can come back again and again and learn something new every time!
