These 5 Unsolved Indiana Mysteries Leave Hoosiers Baffled To This Day

In 1950, a 33-year-old schoolteacher by the name of Garnet Ginn was found deceased in the garage she was renting. She was discovered hanging by her neck from a sewing machine belt attached to the door of her car. At first, it was declared a suicide, but upon a secondary autopsy, it was found that she had been badly beaten and strangled before being posed to appear as if she had killed herself. Over the decades, suspects have been announced and investigated, but unfortunately, there is still no sign of the truth about what happened to Ms. Ginn in her final minutes.

On May 31, 2000, a young woman named Jill Behrman left home for a bike ride. She never returned, and her bike was found three days later with no sign of her. Over the years, suspects were named (and some people even came forward claiming to have been responsible for accidentally killing her and disposing of her body) but they were never charged. In 2003, her bones were found in a remote area of wilderness with evidence supporting the notion that she had been shot in the head. A man was eventually convicted of her murder... but his conviction was overturned in 2019, meaning that this mystery is still unsolved.

This one is particularly terrifying because it's so recent (and because the victims were so young). Two girls, ages 13 and 14, went hiking on their own nearby the Monon Bridge High Trail on February 13, 2017. The next day, their bodies were found. Police have never released details of how the girls were killed, hoping not to compromise a future trial. The most maddening aspect of the mystery, however, is that audio and video of the #1 suspect were recovered from one of the girls' phones; photos, a short video clip of the man's unusual gait, and a brief clip of his voice were released to the public in hopes that someone would direct authorities to the right person. On December 8, 2012, an elderly man by the name of Lowell Badger was found shot to death in the bedroom of his rural Merom, Indiana, home. His home safe and his television were both missing, and it's assumed the murder took place during a burglary at the house.
