Snowbird Resort opened for skiing in 1971, and it was just one year later that it hosted its first Oktoberfest. The festival has been a beloved tradition ever since.
Snowbird is a fabulous destination for alpine skiing, but it's just as amazing during summer months. It's hard to beat scenery that includes massive mountains with rocky peaks, slopes filled with wildflowers, and a vast landscape.
This is the setting for Oktoberfest, and it couldn't possibly be more stunning. See it from Snowbird's slopes, or hop on the tram and ride up to Hidden Peak, which sits 11,000 feet above sea level.
You'll definitely want to make a visit to Hidden Peak part of your festival experience. Every day at 3 p.m., the famous Alpenhorns send their sweet notes across the mountain, filling the air with festive music.
If you have a beer mug from a previous festival, bring it along and they'll fill it up for you at a discount. If you don't have one yet, purchase a mug at this year's festival and bring it to future Oktoberfests.
Some of the dancers have been performing at Snowbird's Oktoberfest for decades! You'll also enjoy local bands playing all kinds of traditional German tunes. Sing along - it's part of the fun.
Make sure to come hungry to this Oktoberfest, which has plenty of authentic treats. Try a pretzel with mustard, a bratwurst with sauerkraut, and some spaetzle. Finish up your meal with some apple strudel.
Oktoberfest is a family-friendly event, and there are plenty of activities to keep everyone busy. Hop on the Peruvian chairlift and enjoy the summer scenery as you float over the pine trees that line the ski runs.
Oktoberfest kicks off its festival season in mid-August and goes through mid-October. Visit from noon to 6 p.m. daily - admission to the festival is free.
Parking at Oktoberfest is $10 per car, and visitors are encouraged to carpool.
